The ‘Vegreville Stands With Ukraine’ Committee held its inaugural meeting at the Vegreville Social Centre on Wednesday, March 23, 2022.
The meeting, which was facilitated by the Town of Vegreville, was chaired by Councillor Jerrold Lemko and featured a list of guest speakers, including former Premier Ed Stelmach, current Consul General of Ukraine in Edmonton Oleksandr Danyleiko as well as current President of the Alberta Ukraine Chamber of Commerce Vitaliy Milentyev.
Councillor Lemko noted that the meeting was a ‘gigantic first step’.
The subcommittee’s -or team’s- champions meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 28, 2022. It will see the leaders of the various teams – including Finance, Communications, Housing & Lodging and more – come together with members of Vegreville Town Council and Town of Vegreville administration to formalize and implement the next steps, including the opening and staffing of a Donation Centre.
Additionally, among those in attendance at Wednesday’s meeting were dignitaries and representatives from several other municipalities including the Town of Mundare, the Town of Lamont and the County of Two Hills and so, in the hopes of better representing the wide-ranging scope of the committee, moving forward it will now be called ‘Vegreville & Area Stands With Ukraine’.
