At the ‘Exploring the World of Hemp Conference’ in Edmonton yesterday, the Government of Alberta announced grant funding that is set to have a major impact on Vegreville.
In partnership with the federal government, Alberta has awarded two grants totaling $900,000 to help grow the province’s hemp industry.
INCA, a globally recognized hemp manufacturing company, will receive a grant of up to $400,000. INCA will use the funding to build a new $72-million hemp processing facility in Vegreville, at it’s new Industrial Prosperity Park.
Mayor of Vegreville, Tim MacPhee, says INCA will be the anchor of Prosperity Park.
MacPhee adds that the initial 72 million dollar investment will create at least 70 jobs, and is just phase one of INCA’s development.
MacPhee notes that they hope to have a ceremonial sod turning by early July.
The other investment announced yesterday was for Blue Sky Hemp Ventures, a global leader in hemp whole plant utilization, who will receive a grant of $500,000 to advance a proposed $75-million hemp food processing facility in Alberta.
