Some better news about COVID-19.
The World Health Organization says the number of new coronavirus cases and deaths reported globally fell everywhere last week except the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
The U-N health agency says there was a 12 per cent decrease in cases and a 22 per cent drop in deaths globally.
Meanwhile, this is the twelfth week of Alberta’s transition to weekly COVID-19 reporting.
The numbers shared on Wednesday (June 8th) cover the time period from May 31st to June 6th.
1,840 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the province during the past week based on a total of 12,230 tests.
According to the geospatial data on the alberta.ca website, 1 new case of COVID-19 has been reported in Lamont County during the past 7 days, 1 in the Vegreville/Minburn County area, and 2 in Two Hills County.
There are currently 816 individuals in hospital in the province due to COVID-19, which is down by 115 from last week’s total. 24 of those patients are in intensive care units – that is down by 5 from last week.
42 new deaths related to the virus have occurred during the past week. Alberta’s total number of deaths due to COVID-19 during the pandemic is 4,567.
