Alberta reported 1,566 new COVID-19 cases and 13 new deaths on Thursday.
Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw says it’s been a difficult year for everyone and she understands that many people have anxiety, fear and frustration.
She adds the latest restrictions are necessary to reduce the continued spread of the virus.
Alberta’s active case count registered a second consecutive daily drop on Thursday thanks again to more reported recoveries than reported daily new cases.
There are presently 20,163 ‘active’ cases of the virus in Alberta with 682 COVID-19 hospitalizations, 124 of those in ICUs.
Close to home, there was no change in the County of Minburn/Vegreville region’s case count with still 36 ‘active’.
Around the region, the County of Two Hills continues to report 50 ‘active’ cases, Lamont County remains at 15, Beaver County is up to 26, the County of Vermilion River’s ‘active’ case count rose from 38 to 41 while the County of St. Paul reported 150 ‘active’ cases, up from 130 on Wednesday.
Strathcona County, excluding Sherwood Park, is up to 111 ‘active’ cases while Sherwood Park’s case count dropped again, now at 353.
To date, 54,225 Albertans have recovered from the virus.
