The Vegreville Vipers will be holding a fundraiser later this week to help support a couple of their own who have been impacted by the crisis in Ukraine.
Vipers Captain and 20 year old defenceman Mykyta Protsenko is from the country which the United Nations refugee agency says more than 3.5-million refugees have now left, with millions more displaced within it.
Vipers Owner/General Manager Bryan Brown says one of their coaches – Sergiy Ivanyuk- is also from Ukraine.
Vipers 19 year old forward Colton Lebid-Pham says the local Can Am Junior Hockey League team is excited to help out in any way they can.
Protsenko says the community of Vegreville and area has been very supportive since the start of the war, and he shares his thoughts on seeing his country under attack by Russian forces.
Join the Vipers for a fundraising hot dog sale and jersey auction at the Vegreville Co-op from 11:30am until 1:30pm this Saturday. It is a number 27 Protsenko jersey which is signed by the entire Vegreville Vipers team.
