Today is Valentine’s Day, but there will be no love lost this week when the North Eastern Alberta Junior B Hockey League playoffs get underway.
The best of seven opening round starts tomorrow night with 6 teams on the ice.
Three of the four first round playoff match ups will begin on Thursday, February 15th.
Game 1s tomorrow will see the Onion Lake Border Chiefs meet the the first place Canadiens in St. Paul, the Cold Lake Ice go to Lloydminster to battle the third place Bandits, and the Killam Wheat Kings travel to Vermilion to take on the fourth place Tigers.
The seventh place Vegreville Rangers will head to Wainwright for Game 1 versus the second place Bisons on Friday night and Game 2 on Saturday. That best of seven affair will then shift to Vegreville for Game 3 on Wednesday, February 21st and Game 4 on Friday, February 23rd.
The Rangers lost to the Vermilion Tigers in the first round of the NEAJBHL playoffs last season.
The Wainwright Bisons are the two time defending league champs. The Bisons beat the St. Paul Canadiens in the championship series in both 2022 and 2023.
