NEAJBHL playoff hockey comes to the Wally Fedun Arena this evening. The Vegreville Rangers play host to the Wainwright Bisons in game three of their best-of-seven opening round series. The Bisons hold a 2-0 series lead after a pair of wins on their home ice over the weekend. Netminder Tyler McKenna has been busy through the first two games, stopping 59 of 62 shots in a 3-0 loss in game one before a tough game two that saw him pulled after surrendering nine goals in 36 minutes. Despite having faced 110 shots through four and a half periods of hockey, McKenna is no stranger to a heavy workload. During the regular season, the Niagara Falls product faced an average of 53.8 shots per 60 minutes. That led him to lead the league in saves with 1208, more than 500 more than his nearest competitor. McKenna says for him, it’s all about staying mentally strong and doing the little things right.
The Rangers and Bisons drop the puck at 8:30 pm tonight at the Wally Fedun Arena. If you can’t make it to the rink, you can still catch all the action right here on Country 106.5.
